Westgate Women exists to empower women in all stages of life and experience to identify, and put into action, the unique gifts God has given each of us. Together, we are learning to live every day in fulfillment of our God-given purpose, empowered by the Holy Spirit and founded on God’s Word. Our goal is to do this through prayer, Bible teaching, mentoring, small groups, and special fellowship and conference events, so that…Together we are Knowing God, Being Transformed and Doing His Work.

Who Are We?

We are the women of Westgate Chapel. We are wives, mothers, teachers, administrators, artists … women who are living for the Lord in a crazy, upside down world!

We want to do things His way! We want to step into all that He has in mind for us, individually and as the Westgate Women. We believe He has gifted us, equipped us, given us courage and strength for this moment in history!

We have dedicated ourselves to having welcoming hearts to all. Our desire is to come along side each other, to pray for, to encourage, to mentor one another in the things of the Lord, relying heavily on His Word as our basis and guide.

We love to get together … to have fun … to do warfare side by side in prayer and worship! We love to laugh … to discover each other’s unique attributes and interests.

Westgate Women Leadership Team

Pastor Rita Rowlands

My childhood was immersed in ministry and music, as my family attended my grandfather’s small church, where each family took their turn doing everything…from cleaning the church once a month to serving as ushers, Sunday School teachers, and singers in the choir.

Alec Rowlands walked into my life, in my sophomore year of college, and, after a whirlwind romance, we married a year later! I completed my Bachelor’s Degree in English and Elementary Education, although I continued to be intensely involved in music ministry throughout. We traveled nationally as full-time Christian recording artists in the ’70s, produced a Christian youth radio program that aired on 200 secular, top 40 rock stations, and then we began pastoring, with an emphasis on the manifest presence of the Lord, through worship and His Word.

As the wife of the Senior Pastor at Westgate Chapel and mother of two beautiful, “thirty–something” daughters, music, worship, and the Church of Jesus have been integral parts of my life, my avocation, and my full-time vocation as the Pastor of Worship Ministry at Westgate Chapel, in Edmonds, WA, 1997-2014. Presently, I am serving as pastoral oversight for the Westgate Women.

The joy of my heart is experiencing the Lord in the place of worship and knowing His faithfulness daily, through His Word and fellowship with His Body. We are living in a very exciting time in history. Women are indeed called for “such a time as this!” Therefore, I believe we must love the Lord with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and use the gifts He has given us.

'Lena Ehlert, Westgate Women Coordinator

I have been married to my husband, Mark, for over 40 years and we have raised five children and enjoy three grandchildren. My husband and I have attended Westgate Chapel since 1990, and in that time, I have been involved in Worship Ministry, Youth Ministry, and Westgate Women Leadership. I am currently the Westgate Women Coordinator, Administrative Assistant for Men’s Events and for Hospitality Ministries. I also co-lead the 6 pm Friday night prayer band with Whitney Sherrill.

Since 2013, I have facilitated Around the Table Women’s Lunches, our annual Holiday Market, and our Awaken Retreats and Conferences. I enjoy leading small group Bible studies, delving into the Word, learning together, and creating accountability with one another; but also gathering women together in greater numbers for worship, fellowship, and community.

My passion is to help women discover who they are in Christ, what their talents and gifts are, the power and authority they have in Christ, and how to live each day victoriously in Him.

I am looking forward to seeing what God will do in 2024!

Whitney Sherrill

I have been married to my husband, Kerry, for thirteen years and we are raising three children; I also have three adult stepsons. My family and I have attended Westgate Chapel for seven years and are excited to be here and a part of what God is doing. I am a member of the choir and worship team and have taught in the Westgate Chapel preschool, which all three of my children have attended. I am co-leader of the Friday night prayer band and have recently joined the Westgate Women leadership team.

I have grown up in the church and recently went through a personal revival. God has restored my heart for Him, my family, and women.

My heart is to see women praying, encouraging, and lifting up one another. It is important to live out His Word and truly love each other. This is the time to be Women of God, not only for ourselves but for those around us. I long for women to live in their authority, in their homes, ad wherever God has called them; to come out of agreement with the lies and stand firm on His truth. I am excited for what is ahead!

Gwen DuBose

I was born in Munich, Germany to a military family. After years of traveling, our family settled in Texas, where I graduated from high school, and college and later married Mack, my husband of 53 years. We have two children and seven grandchildren that we LOVE having fun with.

I was twenty-six when I became a Christian and, for most of those years, I have loved serving and singing in worship ministry and also teaching and ministering to women. I love traveling and have especially loved the doors the Lord has opened for me to be able to minister to women and pastors’ wives in Mexico, Chili, Brazil, and, most recently, Africa.

Amber Ayers

I have been married to my husband, David for almost twenty years and we have three sons, whom I have the privilege to homeschool. I have been blessed to call Westgate Chapel my church home since birth. I often joke that I walked into the church in the womb, but it is literally true. I have been raised through all of Westgate's ministries, from the nursery to the adult choir.

When I was a teenager, I worked for a few years in Children's Ministry teaching children's church, and recently, the Lord called me back after about a twenty-year gap. During that time, my primary focus was on raising my children. And while it still is, these last few years, the Lord has birthed in me a heart for women.

I recently started up a women's bible study and truly feel that women of all ages, seasons of life, backgrounds, and experiences have so much to offer and teach each other. When we link arms together in unity, we are a mighty force and army for His kingdom. My heart's desire is simply to be someone who says "Yes!" to the Lord wherever He calls me. It is truly an honor to be a part of this team!

Cheryl Harding

I have been married for 45 years to my soulmate, Tony. We have two children and six grandchildren, who are my joy.

I was raised most of my life as a preacher’s kid. My family was transferred from Texas to the great Pacific Northwest in 1968. God’s grace and protection were evidenced in my life from a young age. Due to tragedy in my immediate family at a young age, we were thrust into a whirlwind of anxiety and uncertainty. Then my mother attended a church service and accepted Jesus as her personal Savior which changed my life forever. I saw an immediate peace in her from that day forward and I wanted it, too. The next Sunday I received Jesus into my heart and we were baptized a few days later. Our lives were never the same and God directed my family to the ministry.

I saw through this, and other subsequent difficulties in my life, that God was always there for me and He used these situations for good. I am passionate about sharing and supporting women navigating difficult situations. Through shared experiences, women can support, love, and encourage each other.

I encourage women to come and see all that God can do - together.

Coming Events

Join us on Saturday, April 20th for our upcoming Coffee & Conversation gathering. We’re making some changes this time, so it’s definitely worth attending.

Meet us in the Anderson Room (320) for an hour or two, where you can enjoy delicious homemade treats from our talented bakers. We’ll provide coffee, flavored teas, and snacks – all you need to bring is your wonderful conversation!

There is no charge for the event, but we kindly ask you to register so our bakers can prepare plenty of treats. Feel free to bring a friend and come join us for Coffee & Conversation!

Women’s Groups

Jonah, by Priscilla Shirer
led by Amber Ayers

Navigate a Life Interrupted
Interruptions. They’re aggravating. Sometimes infuriating. But how we handle interruptions actually tell us more about ourselves. What do we do when God interrupts our lives? Many times, like Jonah, we run! Priscilla redefines interruption and shows that interruption is actually God’s invitation to do something beyond our wildest dreams. When Jonah was willing to allow God to interrupt his life, the result was revival in an entire city.

Women’s Intercessory Prayer
Barbara Snow
Tuesdays from 6:00-6:55 PM in Room 338
Wednesdays from 7-8 PM via Zoom

Scripture is clear on how powerful and important prayer is in the lives of believers! It tells us to “pray without ceasing” and to “bring EVERYTHING to Him in prayer, with thanksgiving.” This women’s group meets together before Tuesday Night Prayer for one hour to pray for whatever is on our hearts. Our community is not limited to Tuesdays! Join us on Zoom every Wednesday, share a time-sensitive request in our group chat, or meet with Barbara one-on-one for individual prayer times.

Connection Through Listening Prayer
led by Melissa Engstrom
Every other week on Friday mornings from 9:30 am to 12 pm
Location given in Realm group.

Our goal for this group is to facilitate meaningful and deep connection with God and with others through listening prayer. Using scripture as a guide, we spend the first half or our time in guided listening, engaging with Jesus’ invitation within the passage and stilling our hearts to listen and receive. The second half of our time is spent sharing what we’ve heard, listening for prophetic words for one another, and praying together over each woman.

Ablaze

2nd Friday of each Month at 6:30PM in Room 320

Ablaze provides space for women to come together to revel in the presence of God in ever-deepening community and to encounter Holy Spirit’s life-changing power. No sign-up required. Walk-ins welcome! Childcare is provided.
